Welcome Zhejiang Entrepreneurs visit to Kean

A group of 30 entrepreneurs from Zhejiang Province attended a one-day training on Entrepreneurship at Kean University on September 23rd. Mr. Pan Qianglong, head of the delegation group and Acting Dean of Zhejiang Zhongke Business School and Dr. Steven Lorenzet, Acting Dean of Nathan Weiss Graduate College, have jointly signed a memo during the training and both agreed to develop further collaboration programs in the near future. A group of Chinese faculty, staff, and students attended the training and networked with the visitors. We thank Kaichun Wang and Dr. Dongmin Ke for helping with the on-site translations and Kaichun Wang for taking the photos. We thank all of the support from our Chinese community to make this training successful.

A group of fifteen senior retail managers from Wuhan Zhongbai Group attended an advanced retail management training at Kean University from September 13-22, organized jointly by Department of Graduate Management Studies, Nathan Weiss Graduate College, and Retail Marketing & Supply Chain Institute, College of Business & Public Administration. Kean Chinese community provided strong support to this training and many of our Chinese faculty, staff, and students volunteered to help with this training. We thank all of you who volunteered, particularly Dr. Bin Zhou for offering one training session, Dr. Dongmin Ke, Dr. Xurong Kong, Kaichun Wang, Chunyan Xu, and Dr. Frank Zhang for helping with on-site interpretations, and Xiaolong Yang and Zhongyuan Su for helping with store visits and miscellaneous . Training Program for Chinese Beijing Group: Professional Talent and Licensing

A group of seventeen government officials from Haidian district of Beijing attended the training on high-level professional talentdevelopment and licensing at Kean from April 19-21. Kean Chinese community provided great support to this training and many of our Chinese faculty and stuff volunteered to help with this training. We thank all of you who volunteered, particularly Dr. Wenli Yuan, Dr.Jing-Chuiou Liou, Chunyan Xu, Dr. Dongmin Ke, Dr. Xurong Kong, Charlie Xu, Kaichun Wang and Dr. Suling Zhang for their volunteer work to make this training successful.

On Tuesday, October 20th. Kean Chinese Community held a Baby Shower party for Xurong Kong at her office. Thanks to Professor Chunyan Xu who provided the photos.

October 22th, Xurong sent a thanks email: "My husband and I are very delighted to receive your wonderful gifts. We also feel thankful for your considerations. We did not realize how much help we need until the big moment is approaching. A greeting card with the baby boy's picture will be sent out to you. Thanks for sharing the life-experience with us. Your words, your help and your name will stay in our life."

在肯恩大学过春节

来肯恩大学快半年了，学习紧张且忙碌。我们中国传统的春节来临时，正赶着上课期间，我因今年选了5门课，也就没心思过节，爸妈的朋友唐阿姨一家还邀请我去他们家过节，我也没去。但春节的当天还是很想家的，看看新闻的报道，给家打个电话，知道国内很是热闹。心想，不就今年一次没过节么，要耐得住寂寞。
没想到，过了几天就从学校那收到消息，肯恩大学Chinese Faculty and Staff 要在2月17日组织09年春节Party, 邀请所有的学生参加呢。这让我想起去年的中秋节，肯恩大学也组织了一次中秋Party，那天去的人真是很多，有自助餐和节目的表演，让我感受的我国节日的浓浓气氛和血浓于水的亲切。这次组织者名字叫王开春，在肯恩商学院工作，我们称她为王老师。王老师让我们早点去帮忙，我爽快地答应了。王老师真是很热心的人，她来美十多年了，当初来美后也遇到了很多困难，得到了热心人的帮助，因此，她一直带着感恩的心善待周围的人，尤其是中国人。还有我们系的张素玲老师都怀孕4个月了，也提早过去帮忙，她同时也是活动的主持。

我去的时候已经有许多学生在那忙碌了，我就跟着大伙贴春联、挂灯笼、布置场地，同时，有几个学生从纽约的唐人街买了些小玩意和中国小吃，摆了个桌子在那卖，主要是想为肯恩大学的留学生组织筹集些资金。当高高的红灯笼挂起，代表中国传统的国画、剪纸布置好，节日的氛围立即就显现出来了。尤其是我们几个人换上唐装（据说是从教会里借来的，有些大），感觉真是春节来了，尽管已经过去了好些天了，我心里是真后悔没有带上自己结婚时定制的红色旗袍。这让我想起我在唐阿姨家看到的照片，她们家人每年春节都会穿着红色、黄色或蓝色的唐装过节并合影留念，中国人的传统情结只有到了国外后才愈来愈深。
参加Party的人陆陆续续地来了，我们从饭馆定的中国饭也已摆好。这是自助形式，对学生是免费，老师呢要收8美元，每个人拿着盘子依次选着自己喜欢的食物，边聊天边等着节目的开始。节目是在三点的时候开始，王老师首先宣读了中国大使馆纽约领事馆的贺信，Dr. Michael Searson还深情并茂对中国的春节作了感言，他到过中国的许多地方，对我国各个城市有所了解，并且对中国怀有很深的好感，我也被他演讲感动了。这几年，中国发展的非常快，而且城市建设也日新月异，给人感觉是欣欣向荣，充满活力，尽管我们国家在好些方面也存在着问题，这是一个发展中国家的必经之路，希望自己的祖国是越来越好，只有国家发展了，地位提高了，中国人在国外才有地位。接下来是经济金融系的柯冬敏老师唱了支“同一首歌”，伴随着肯恩大学中国群体在过去2008活动照片的回顾和婉转动人的歌声，引来了阵阵掌声。温州的几个学生（他们是和肯恩大学的合作项目，在中国和美国各学习两年）也为大伙献上他们的感言和歌曲，这几个学生可是美女和帅哥呢。此外纪业老师分享肯恩大学校园里中国老师互相帮助的友情。Lucia的儿子Jonathan Tan现场表演了二胡演奏,技巧也相当不错，曲子充满感情色彩，略带忧伤的韵律诠释了最具中国民族色彩的音乐风格; 还有高静老师孩子Olivia的冰上表演录像也让人惊叹不已，一看就是具有大赛的风格，据说这个十岁小姑娘的梦想是参加奥运会，她已经参加了好多比赛并拿过第一。可以说，节目精彩缤纷，充分展示了中国人的多才多艺。

这个迟到的春节让我感受到中国人的力量。这些年，来美国留学的大陆学生越来越多，再加上有些香港人、台湾人，这次我又认识了两个台湾朋友，学校也就对中国人越来越重视了。希望会有更多的中国学生来这里学习，体验文化的冲击和调整，同时学到真正的本领来建设我们的国家。 View my blog.

On Oct. 2, 2008 Kean University hosted a very sucessful third Presidential lecture series: Dr. Orville Schell's "How Should We Look at China?"
Dr. Orville Schell is:
"an expert on China-United States relations and is a distinguished author and journalist. He has appeared frequently on broadcast media and in print media on China-U.S. relations and wrote the cover article on China for the August issue of Newsweek before the start of the Olympics." --Media and Publication"

KU Chinese Moon Festival Party

We would like to express our sincere appreciation for your hearty and selfless support for our moon festival party held October 1. The event would have never been successful without your kind help and care. According to our registration information, we hosted about 200 guests that day and received numerous positive comments. Many guests suggested to our party organizers that they are highly interested in participating more well organized events in the near future at Kean.
